Mr McNish,
I wanted to thank you because The Doomspell trilogie was the first books I ever read that I found interesting. I read it when I was 10 and still refused to speak English. I found the books (in French) at a book store a just fell in love with them ^^
Now, thanks to your books, I'm a total addict. I read about a book a week, or every two weeks when I'm at school. It also made me wnt to write my own books.
Thank you very much for every thing ^^

After I read Breathe all those other ghost stories seemed to not be as good! So thank you for writing that book. I will always remember it! You biggest Fan,

Dear Cliff Mcnish,
I found this by accident whilst browsing, but good for me because now i can tell you my thoughts on your Doomspell triliogy (even though my opinion is not accountable)
i am re-reading your books with my brother, who is 7 (i have edited out a few bits).
He loves it and, who havent read it for ages have learned to love it again.
My brother and i, however, did love Dragwena (we ALWAYS love the villians) and were very distraught when she died. We loved her because she was very 3D not like some villians ho are just murder, murder, murder and she had fears and loves as well as being terrifying and having a savage sense of humor.
But, aside from this tragedy (which was written very well, by the way) we still like the books, the twists, other characters and the writing style, even though i am probably too old to read (not that i take that into consideration)
so i am writing to say thankyou, which is something i never get to do for the authors of books that i love

698: Mharie West - Thursday 16th July, 2009

Hi, Mr McNish!

Just found this site when I was browsing for some Doomspell fanfiction (can't find much; have to see what I can do about that!) and noticed a message someone else had sent about age of fans. Well, I'm 17 - does that make me fairly ancient? I read Doomspell when I was 11 and nagged my teacher into buying the next two for the school - I now have all three at home.

See, they epitomise what I -keep- trying to tell my friend who went straight from Enid Blyton to Kathy Reichs and the like - young adult/older children fiction might use more simplistic language but the plots are wonderfullly inventive, the language -is- simple but it gets the point across succuintly and the characters suffer emotions we can relate to. I mean, I can relate to Eric's general irritating-little-brother-ness in book one and two (he was absolutely awe-inspiring in book 3) much more effectively than I can to an adult detective, three times divorced and generally with more family problems than you can shake a stick at. But nooo, she refuses to listen, or even to -read- any of the great YA stuff out there. Admittedly, I'd class Doomspell as younger than most of the things I read, but so what? So's the Echorium Sequence and I love that particular series just as much as The Doomspell Trilogy. Don't get me wrong, I read as much adult fiction as I do children's, but YA fantasy is just perfect escapism, only as complicated as your mind want to make it.

What's your view on fanfiction, anyway? Do you like it, or would you rather we just let our fevered imaginations runs riot on something less dear than your own work?

Yes, I am bored. This is a lovely way to spend a free period, I must say. I wonder if there's a character limit?

No, behave. :P I mustn't ramble too much or I'll just bore you and embarrass myself. So, I'll just say thanks for writing such enjoyable books and also for reading my rant. Off to browse your website now.

Thank you,

Mharie
